Schminkey, Evelyn L.
Evelyn L. Schminkey, 78, of Marion, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. William B. Harnish. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville, at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Greg Schminkey of Amana, DeWayne (Janet) Schminkey of Cedar Rapids, Debbie Trumblee of Cedar Rapids, and Lawanna (Chris George) Hawker of Marion; five grandchildren, Quintin (Heather) Trumblee of Cedar Rapids, Britney (Tim Merritt) Alvino of Cedar Rapids, Seth Schminkey of Marion, Austin Schminkey of Cedar Rapids, and Lauren Hawker of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Maddox Trumblee and Nikole Alvino; and her siblings, Charles Meyer of Illinois and Ruth Hartwig of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are two nephews, Jamie Meyer and Mark Hocken.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; and daughter-in-law, Laura.
Evelyn was born April 23, 1934, in rural Newhall, the daughter of Ray and Mildred (Paulson) Meyer. She married Harry Schminkey on May 22, 1955, in Van Horne. He died Nov. 29, 2001. Evelyn had been employed at St. Luke's Hospital as a nurse's aid for three years.
She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her trips to the casinos.
Her greatest love of all was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Evelyn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's memory.
