Helen R. Richerson, 83, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Briarwood Care Center. Funeral Services will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville, with Pastor Brent Hartwig officiating. Visitation will be Sunday after 4 p.m. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Oxford Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Helen was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Lena Kopf Portwood. She was raised in Oxford and on April 7, 1951, married Thomas Richerson.

Helen was a homemaker and owned Richerson Upholstery.

She liked to garden and cook, but most important to Helen was her family and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Dawn Stoddard of North Liberty and Rita Richerson of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter Portwood of Oxford and Ivan Portwood of Marengo.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her children, Pamela Kaeffring, Thomas Michael Richerson and an infant daughter; and her siblings, James and Dolly Portwood.
