Hartwig, Gertrude
Gertrude Hartwig, 104, died March 5, 2010, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood by Pastor Tim Jones. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Clarence. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Born Oct. 26,1905, in rural Clarence, the daughter of John and Ida (Licht) Ibsen, she married Walter Hartwig on Dec. 19,1926, in Clarence. He died in 1985. They farmed in the Clarence area until 1947, when they started Hartwig Electric, retiring in 1971.
She was a member of the church, active in Ladies Aid and Loyal Workers, taught Sunday school and was a member of Cultus Club at one time.
Survivors include a son, Gene (Janice) of Alexandria, Minn.; grandson, Rick (Rose) of Menlo Park, Calif.; granddaughter, Robyn Hartwig of Portland, Ore.; and great-grandchild, Alessandra.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Chet and George Ibsen.
