Letter: Defenses of Trump ring false to reader

What does it tell us when the head of the Republican National Committee says of Donald Trump, 'He's been on message. He's shown maturity as a candidate.”? And even more preposterous, here's what his latest campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, says about Trump's insulting behavior: 'Well, but he doesn't hurl personal insults.”
In the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, such statements reek of desperation. Surely, these two operatives must know that they are lying. Don't they?
