Gilbert F. “Gib” Honkomp, 82, of Dyersville, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Petersburg. Officiating will be the Rev. Phil Kruse.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two sons, Ron (Linda) Honkomp of Petersburg and LaVern (Joan) Honkomp of Dyersville; six daughters, Shirley (Pat) Pirc and Janice (Tim) Gansemer, both of Dyersville, Lou Ann (Gordon) Helle of Elkader, Joyce (Pat) McCue of Shakopee, Minn., Margie (Murray) Nelson of Waukee and Mary Lee (Stan) McWilliams of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six stepchildren, Julie (Jeff) Wieneke, Wayne (Janice) Steffen, Terry (Sally) Steffen, Kenneth (Cindy) Steffen, Steven (Laura) Steffen and Martin Steffen; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Verna Mae (Walter) Burkle of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; his first wife, Helen, in 1993; two daughters in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Jerome Jaeger and Clete Murphy.

Memorials are preferred.
