Rogers, Donald Leo
Donald Leo Rogers, 83, of Marshalltown, departed this life to be with the angels, Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where he had lived since 2002. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, 1301 Summit St., Marshalltown, with Chaplain Craig Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the Veterans Home. Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery, with military rites provided by the Marshalltown VFW. The Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Donald was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from City High High School in Iowa City in 1945, joined the military, and later was married to Dorothy O'Donnell. They had two children, Greg Rogers and Jan Smith.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Boarts, and father, Philip Lee Rogers; stepfather, Frank Mitchell; former wife, Dorothy Rogers; and son, Greg Rogers.
He is survived by his sister, Lucille Aupperle; daughter, Jan Smith and son-in-law Jeff Smith of Phoenix; daughter-in-law, Arlene Rogers of West Branch; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Don enjoyed CB radios, motorcycles, dancing, country music, and ice cream. Don is now undoubtedly happily cruising around on his heavenly Harley.
