Joan B. (Parsons) Covington, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away after a short illness on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Daniel Winn. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the funeral home. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Survivors include her husband, Brian Covington; brother, Larry (Patricia) Parsons; children, Rocky, Jeff and Brad Wicher and Chris (Nelson) Smalley; two stepchildren, Michael (Shannon) Covington and Cathy Covington; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ron Parsons; daughter-in-law, Cindy Wicher; and nephew, Ron Carson.
Joan was born June 8, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of Floyd and Marita (Sweet) Parsons. On April 1, 1989, she married Brian Covington at the chapel at St. Luke's Hospital.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, dancing, country music and being outdoors.
