Larry Lee Jayne, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. A celebration
of Larry's life will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
Larry was born Nov. 11, 1933, the son of Harold and Mildred Jayne of Audubon, Iowa. He later graduated from Iowa State University and enlisted in the Army. He served his country overseas in Germany and later entered the Reserves. While in Germany, he met and married his first wife, Connie. After returning from overseas, he made the Cedar Rapids area his home for the rest of his life.
Larry spent the majority of his career in sales with Curtis 1000. Larry loved the outdoors. He was an avid cyclist, completing nine RAGBRAIs, and enjoyed having coffee with his Renegade group. He worked as a volunteer at the Indian Creek Nature Center, working on the Bluebird Trail and making maple syrup for the festival. Larry collected two-cylinder engines and scale-model John Deere tractors, and enjoyed driving in the WMT Tractorcade. He later picked up woodworking as a hobby and gifted his beautiful work to his loved ones. He was a 50-year member of the Thursday Noon Optimist Club and lived his life in accordance with its creed.
Larry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lou Ann; son, Tobias Jayne (Anndrea) and their children, Elizabeth, Anderson and Wen; daughter, Kimberly Helgeland and her sons, Alexander and Jacob (Trish); stepchildren, Karlyn Harrington, Paul Harrington and Susan Soupiset, and their children; great-grandson, Luke; sisters, Patricia Mortensen (Dale) and Eunice Buchanan (Glen); and brother, Donald (Linda).
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Glenn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Indian Creek Nature Center or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
