Iowa State’s Monte Morris earns All-American honors
Mar. 6, 2017 3:39 pm
AMES — Monte Morris continues to stack up postseason accolades.
Iowa State's senior point guard garnered third-team All-America honors from USA Today and NBCSports.com on Thursday.
Morris, who was named a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection by league coaches Sunday, is averaging 16.2 points and 6.2 assists for the Cyclones (20-10). He has a 6.2 assist-to-turnover ratio this season, and is on pace to lead the NCAA in the category for the third time in four years.
Morris is the 20th player in school history — the fifth since 2014 — to achieve All-American honors. Morris' 35 minutes, 5.0 assists and 1.0 turnover per game make him the first player in Division I since 1996-97 to put up such numbers.
Morris also was named an Associated Press All-Big 12 first team honoree, as voted by the media, Monday. Senior guard Deonte Burton was named to the second team while senior guard Naz Mitrou-Long was an honorable mention selection.
