Deppe, James E.
James E. Deppe, 82, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, with the Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery in Garrison, with graveside Military Rites. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
A memorial fund has been established.
James was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Keystone to Edward and Nan (Jordt) Deppe. During World War II, he served his nation in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. On Dec. 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Alice Wenger at Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello. She preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1982. James was an inspector for John Deere and retired in 1981.
He is survived by his companion, Lois Elze of Lincoln, Neb.; his children, Scott (Pamela) Deppe of Belle Plaine, Dawn (Lenny) Drake of Palo, and Pamela Henkel and companion Eddie Cockling of Flowery Branch, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne Stein of Keystone, and Arlene Fintel of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Robert (Carol) Deppe of Ames.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Larry Wenger, and Kenneth, and Rick Deppe; his brother, Richard Deppe; and his sister, Lillian Scheel Pohlman.
