Roy Tamayo Sr., 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 26, 2014. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Survivors include his former wife, Wendy McNabb; children, Melissa (Lyle) Ruzicka, Corina Robida, Lyna (Dake Dietrich) Berry, Roy (Rachel) Tamayo Jr. and Stefanie (Erick Schwab) Tamayo; siblings, Mary (Barry) Barker, Rosie (Rick) Kinney, Joe (Marlene) Tamayo, Steve (Cheryl) Tamayo and L.D. Rodriguez; significant other, Martha Gordon; 21 grandchildren, including his oldest grandson, Tyler Berry, serving in the United States military at Fort Drum, N.Y.; and close friends, Dave Farmer and Luigi.
Roy was born April 12, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Joseph and Enemecia (Sotello) Tamayo. He worked in roofing, construction and auto body for many years.
Roy enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anthony and Eddie; sister, Connie; brother-in-law, Gary; grandchildren, Austin and Alexus; and three nephews.
