Betenbender, Dale Richard 'Mick'

Dale Richard “Mick” Betenbender, 85, of Coggon, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. James Wolf of Troy Mills Christian Church. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; son, Gene (Sheryl) Betenbender; two grandchildren, Amy Betenbender and Chad (Nikki) Betenbender; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Levi; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mark Betenbender; a sister; and two brothers.

Mick was born April 17, 1926, in Marion, the son of Earl and Martha (Neilson) Betenbender. On April 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lillian Marek in Cedar Rapids. Mick was a lifelong farmer and a great vegetable garden was his pride and joy. His many friends will miss stopping by for coffee and his many jokes.
