Franklin, Marion J.
Marion J. Franklin, 82, a resident of Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following complications of pneumonia. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Coggon Cemetery, Coggon. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; three children, Janis Franklin (Dennis Kelchen) of Anchorage, Alaska, Christopher J. (Marcia) Franklin of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Keith) Schmitz of Urbana; grandchildren, Jill and Ryan Franklin and Abby Anthony; and a sister, Lelah Peet (Herman Gansemer) of Guttenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Richard Peet.
Marion was born Feb. 19, 1928, the son of John and Josie (Candler) Franklin. He graduated from Coggon High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. On Dec. 27, 1952, Marion was united in marriage to Jean Fairchild in Kansas City. He drove truck for Arledge Transfer for many years.
Marion was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Teamsters Union, and was involved in the Optimist Club. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
