BARBARA APPLEBY

Barbara Jean Appleby, 85, of Manchester, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon. Family will greet friends one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Coggon Cemetery, Coggon. Arrangements are with Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester.
Barbara was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Delhi, the daughter of John C. and Pearl C. (Aldrich) Doese. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State Teachers College for one year. On Sept. 5, 1948, Barbara was united in marriage to Norman Appleby at Golden Prairie Congregational Church, rural Ryan. The couple farmed in the Manchester, Golden Prairie and Buck Creek areas until moving in 1964 to their Coggon farm, where they farmed until retirement in 1990. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and traveling.
Surviving are her four children, Betty (Tom) South of Bradenton, Fla., Richard (Linda) Appleby of Marion, Steven (Beth) Appleby of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, and Margie (Mick) Ellis of Coggon; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and three great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman, in 2007; a grandson, Shane C. Martin; and her brother, Jack Doese.
