Ironside, Dorothy J.
Dorothy J. Ironside, 84, a resident of Summit Pointe, Marion, formerly of Coggon, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at St. John's Catholic Church, Coggon. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a Scripture service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Inurnment: Thursday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.
Survivors include her children, Pamela Ironside of Waterloo, Rick (Carla) Ironside of Marion, and Jay (Pamela) Ironside of Prairie Du Sac, Wis.; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Connor, and Colton Ironside.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and her brother, Robert Bretz.
Dorothy was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Viola (Takes) Bretz. She graduated from Coggon High School with the class of 1945. Dorothy married Edward “Jim” Ironside on Jan. 26, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. After working for several years at a beauty shop, she went on to become the Food Director at North-Linn Schools for 23 years. Dorothy was a member at St. John's Catholic Church, Coggon, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #362 of Coggon.
