Donald Ary, 96, a resident of the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Coggon, died Friday, July 8, 2016, at the care center. Memorial services will be held at the United Parish in Coggon at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16. Inurnment: Coggon Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two grandsons, Timothy of Japan and Warren of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandsons, Max and Sean; a great-granddaughter, Anjela; two brothers-in-law, Jay and Roger Eggers; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Lawrence; a daughter, Sharon; a brother, Alvin; and a sister, Ruth.
Don was born June 1, 1920, in Princeton, Ill., the son of Claude and Mary Howe Ary. He married Ruth B. Eggers on Dec. 25, 1939, in Vinton. Ruth passed away in 2004.
Don was a longtime farmer in the Coggon area. After retiring from farming he drove a school bus for Coggon schools and later at North Linn.
He and Ruth escaped the Iowa winters by going to Arizona for many years. He enjoyed helping on the farm parttime and the time spent with his family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to hospice in Don's name.
