Norma J. Treanor, 84, of Asbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a parish Scripture service at
7 p.m.
She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in St. Olaf, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Stella (Johnson) Peterson. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1951. She married the love of her life, Clifford Treanor, on Jan. 24, 1953. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2006.
She worked as an administrative secretary at Dubuque Hempstead High School, retiring in 1991. Norma loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her so much joy. She was an avid golfer, card player and bowler. She also loved to shop and travel. She was a member of Lacoma Golf Course, Bunker Hill Golf Course and the Moose Lodge. She was a volunteer for Finley RSVP, the Grand Opera House, the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and the Mississippi River Museum.
Surviving are four children, Ron (Nancy) Treanor of Bettendorf, Gary (Ann) Treanor of Cedar Rapids and Rick (Sherri) Treanor and Jodi (Jim) Nemmers, both of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Brian) Pins and Sheena (Brett) Mahan, Peter (Claire), Nick and Jacob Nemmers; five great-grandsons, Brayden, Tyler, Keegan, Luke and Benjamin; one brother, Larry (Alice) Peterson of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Lela Peterson, of Freeborn, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Mary McDermott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff; two brothers, Peter and Fred Peterson; a sister, Bernice (Stan) Robey; father- and mother-in-law, Peter and Amanda Treanor; brothers-in-law, Dean (Marge) Treanor, Karl (Pat) Treanor, Don "Mud" (Gloria) Treanor and Versal "Curly" Treanor; and two sisters-in-law, Opal (Whitey) Wiezorek and Myrl Treanor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque.
Norma's family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all their gentle guidance and support during this difficult time, especially Tammie, Heather and Jennie.
