Carl Richard Avis, 82, of Coggon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, rural Coggon.
Carl is survived by his siblings, Marlene (Jim) Olinger of Strawberry Point, Daisy (Marvin) Rickels of Monticello, Clara (Larry) Hootman of Madison, S.D., and V. Jay (Connie) Avis of Coggon; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Avis; sisters, Mae, Ann and Dorothy; and brother, Leo.
Carl was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Coggon, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Mary (Couser) Avis.
He worked as a carpenter. Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hunting for mushrooms. He loved to help people and going to the family cabin in Canada.
A memorial fund has been established in Carl's memory.
