Basten, Dorothy
Dorothy was united in marriage to James “Jim” Basten on May 12, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. Seven children were born to this union. For most of their married life they resided in Edgewood. Dorothy was a home maker over the years.
Dorothy touched many lives over the years and will be fondly remembered as a great wife, a wonderful mother, a fabulous grandmother and for many other roles.
Dorothy was a long time member of the Edgewood Bible Church and over the years was involved in Ladies Aid and was a member of the Womens Club. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She will be great missed. Dorothy is dancing with Jim in heaven.
Survivors include her children, Janet Lentz of Springville, Bonnie Emerson of Edgewood, Joyce (Nick) Nichols of Lakewood, Colo., Lynda (Donald) Mahan of Marion, Kathleen “Katrina” (Roger) Sapp of Central City, Jim Basten of Strawberry Point and Bob Basten of Edgewood; 10 grandchildren, John B. Lentz, Jamie Lentz, Heather Emerson, Billi Emerson, Jodi Veach, Michael Basten Nichols, Cory James Mahan, Sean Wood, Krieg Basten and Salina Basten; six great-grandchildren, Niki Tibbott, Keara Emerson, Keaton Emerson, Breanna Veach, Michael Veach, and Braylee Veach; one great-great-grandson, Peyton Hutchinson; one great-grandchild expected in January; and six siblings, Betty (Veryl) Williams of Edgewood, Gene (Ramona) Perrinjaquet of Manchester, Marie Thurn of , Shirley (Bill) Meisner of Anamosa, Lucille (Keith) Callies of Manchester and Virginia Waco of Santa Monica, Calif.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2006; her parents; her son-in-law, John D. Lentz in 2000; and two brothers, Edward and George.
