Grant T. Faust, 98, of Coggon, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Visitation will
be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service
in Central City. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon officiated by the Rev. Darcy Metcalfe and the Rev. Leonard "Doc" Ranson. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Military honors provided by Coggon American Legion Post 362.
Grant was born near Central City, Iowa, on June 26, 1920, the son of George John Faust and Alma Susan (Kennedy) Faust. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He also joined the National Guard. He later served his country in the Army during World War II. He had been a member of the American Legion for 76 years, currently at Post 362 in Coggon.
Grant married his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Truesdell, in 1944. They were married for over 53 years until her passing in 1998. They were parents to three children. Their two oldest children, Allan and Marcia, were stricken with illness and both passed in 1953. They farmed near Ryan, where he also operated his business, Handicraft Shop, doing repairs of all kinds. In retirement, he delivered Meals on Wheels in the Coggon area for over 20 years.
Grant is survived by a son, Craig (Judy) Faust of Coggon; his grandchildren, Jeremy Faust of Coggon, Douglas (Abbey) Faust of Anamosa, Allison (James) Gates of Ryan and Suzanne (Aric) Whiting of Marion; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; a son, Allan; and a daughter, Marcia.
