Klostermann, Gerald A.
Gerald A. Klostermann, 82, of New Vienna, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with funeral services immediately following at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna. The Rev. John O'Connor will officiate.
Flowers and mementos should be delivered to St. Boniface Church after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Gerald was born Jan. 16, 1929, the son of Alois A. and Clara (Willenbring) Klostermann. He married Patricia Sabers on June 30, 1956, in New Vienna. Together they farmed north of New Vienna until 1991, when they retired in town.
Jerry's family was very important to him as he loved to vacation and spend time with and tease his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved visiting with neighbors on the glider on the deck, with coffee cup in hand, or fishing, playing cards or watching the White Sox. He regularly enjoyed his morning Code Red at the Lounge and was a member of the Edward W. Lake V.F.W. Post 7736.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three children, Donna (Bill) Schaffer of Cedar Rapids, Kay (Dan) Pasker and Sharon Hendricks, both of New Vienna; 10 grandchildren, Brian and Jenny Schaffer, Chris, Tim, Aaron, Travis and Steve Pasker, Tracy Tupy, Brad Pasker and Cody Hendricks; five great-grandchildren; three siblings, Clarinda Thole and Erwin (Viola) Klostermann, both of Manchester, and Roger (Mary) Klostermann of Worthington; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylveria Ruden, Eugene (Darlean) Sabers and John (Mary Ann) Sabers, all of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Wayne in 1990 and Kenny in 1994; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred Thole, Floyd, Ceil and Edith Sabers, Clarence Ruden, Edgar and Ruth Holl, Roger Sabers and Marvin and Irene Sabers.
