Susan Jane Dohrmann, 75, of Fayette, died June 24, 2017, warmly embraced by family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, William B. Dohrmann; their children, Ann Dohrmann (Matt Maruggi), Jane Dohrmann (Don Anderson) and Tom Dohrmann (Nayantara Mukerji); and grandchildren, Hope Dohrmann Anderson, Benjamin Dohrmann Maruggi, Sofia Dohrmann Maruggi, Ishan Dohrmann, and Ila Dohrmann. Additional surviving family members include her sister, Linda Ellis (William Ellis); brother, Albert "Sparky" Duroe (Suzanne Duroe); brother-in-law, Boyd Dohrmann (Irene Dohrmann); numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; and a lifetime of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvina and Collingwood Duroe and parents-in-law, Fern and Bernard Dohrmann.

Sue graduated from Jesup High School and Iowa State University, majoring in home economics with a minor in math. She later earned a master's degree in counseling from Pittsburg State University (while raising three children). She worked as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator (serving as director of school-based youth services) for over 30 years. Sue was truly passionate about helping all children receive the guidance, support and nurturance they deserve.

Sue cared deeply about her friends and community. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, PEO Sisterhood, United Methodist Women and First United Methodist Church of Fayette. Sue taught Sunday School for over 25 years and played a leadership role on various committees in her congregation. She volunteered at Maple Crest Manor, with Meals on Wheels and in the RSVP program for the Oelwein Community School District. She served on the Fayette Community Library Board and in multiple capacities on behalf of the city of Fayette, including supporting her spouse, Bill, in his role as mayor.

Bill and Sue loved to travel, attend Iowa State University football and basketball games and, in recent years, spend part of the winter in Florida at Ocean Pointe with a new community of friends there.

Sue will be remembered for many things – her vibrant smile, her warm hospitality, her attention to detail and her strong organizational skills. However, for those who knew her well, she will be remembered most for her ability to be with others, learn their stories, and help them feel special and loved. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the professional expertise and guidance given over the past 16 years by Dr. Timothy J. Hobday, oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. They also would like to thank the staff at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital for their exceptional care and support.

Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church of Fayette on Monday, June 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a time of remembrance from 7 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon served by the United Methodist Women. Burial services will be held at 3 p.m. at Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.
