Raymond P. Trenkamp, 85, of Maynard, Iowa, died Friday evening, May 23, 2014, at the Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein,
Iowa.
Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Officiating: the Rev. Paul C. McManus and Deacon Jim Patera. 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish Scripture service at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Dyersville with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 137 of Dyersville.
Memorials may be given in his name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein or the Maynard Public Library.

Raymond Paul Trenkamp was born Aug. 2, 1928, at Worthington, Iowa, the son of Anton and Mary (Kremer) Trenkamp. He received his GED from Area 1 at Calmar, Iowa. Raymond married Bernadette Frances Jasper on June 4, 1959, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the Army.
Ray was a former Surge dealer and also worked at Occo Feeds in Oelwein and at the Maynard Cooperative. He delivered papers for The Cedar Rapids Gazette in Maynard for 30 years. Ray was on the Maynard City Council for two years and then was mayor of Maynard for 11 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, the Knights of Columbus Oelwein Council 1168 and a lifetime member of Lundbye-Carpenter American Legion Post 245 of Maynard.
Ray enjoyed gardening, bicycling, reading, camping, traveling with two overseas trips, crossword puzzles, newspapers and bird watching and feeding.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernadette Trenkamp of Maynard; four sons, Marc (Laure) Trenkamp of Oelwein, Michael Trenkamp of Maynard, Mitchell Trenkamp of Maynard and Matthew (Angela) Trenkamp of Dyersville; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anna Trenkamp of Dyersville; two sisters, Margaret (John) Bertling of Worthington, Iowa, and Madonna Snitker of Waukon, Iowa; two brothers, Anthony (Mary) Trenkamp and John Trenkamp, both of Dubuque, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Patricia White of Monticello, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Trenkamp; two brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frank and Rita (Leiblod) Trenkamp and Wilford and Constance (Hopkins) Trenkamp; brother-in-law James Snitker; and a nephew, Timothy Trenkamp.
