Elaine Elizabeth "Sis" (West) Howe, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Willow Gardens, Marion. Celebration of Life: noon Saturday, Jan. 7, at American Legion Post No. 298 in Marion.
Elaine is survived by her husband, John; sons, Roger (Karla) Howe of Maple Grove, Minn., Timothy (Sue) Howe of Coon Rapids, Minn., Curt Howe of Cedar Rapids and Douglas (Kathy) Howe of Marion; nine grandchildren, Randy Howe, Nicole (Andy) Robertson, Elya Howe, Luke Howe, Erik (Samantha) Howe, Nathan Howe, Jessica (Quentin) Thurmond, Andrew Howe and Chloe Howe; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn (Beth) West of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Don (Bonnie) West of Remer, Minn.; sisters, Marilyn (Mike) Smith of Coon Rapids and Sandee (Tom) Heyman of San Marcos, Calif.; sister-in-law, Rose West of Bloomington, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Dewaine West and Kenny West.
Elaine was born April 23, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Wyate and Eunice (Baglien) West. She graduated in 1953 from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. Elaine married John Howe on June 29, 1953, in Northwood, Iowa. Elaine raised her four boys while working as an officer at a bank. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion. In her younger years, she was a speed skater and won many gold medals. Her greatest joy was her grandkids. She enjoyed traveling with all of them.
