Hewlett, The Rev. Charles B.
The Rev. Charles B. Hewlett, 76, of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a short illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Pine Creek Cemetery, rural Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 3 until 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home in Independence.
He was born May 26, 1933, in Kansas City, Kan. On April 12, 1953, he and the former Esther Annalee Bland were married in Hutchinson, Kan. The Rev. Hewlett then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
The Rev. Hewlett is survived by his wife, Ann; four daughters, Michal “Mickey” (Derrell Jr.) Scott and Rachel (Randy) Salow, both of Independence, Sarah (Andy) Bixler of Waterloo and Mary (Jeff) Lenz of Iowa City; and three sons, Willard “Bill” Hewlett of Marshalltown, Mark (Tracy) Hewlett of Iowa City and Timothy (Jennie) Hewlett of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Michal Louise (Edward) Roch of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Hewlett; and a son, Charles B. Hewlett Jr.
