Davis, Dorothy R.

Dorothy R. Davis died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City at the age of 84 years. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was born March 22, 1926, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Roderick William and Henrietta Anna (Meyer) Reader. She graduated from Williamsburg High School and worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for a number of years. On April 24, 1943, she married Marvin Dale Clark. They later divorced. In February 1976, she married Earl Davis. She grew up in Williamsburg and later moved to Iowa City after she was married.

Dorothy was a member of the Welsh Church, rural Iowa City, and St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. She was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing in her younger years, dining out with friends, her church work and her flowers.

She adored her pets, Tiger and Mimi, and doted on her grandson, Sean, and his children.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Welsh; a grandson, Sean (Shelly) Welsh; and two great-grandsons, Eli and Caleb Welsh, all of Williamsburg; and a brother, Thomas Reader of Streamwood, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; and four brothers, Merle, George, David and Charles.

A general memorial fund has been established.
