Gary McGuire, 68, passed away July 17, 2015, at his home after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, at the Flamingo restaurant on Ellis Boulevard from 5 to 8 p.m. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Seventh Day Adventist Church on Edgewood Road.
Born June 28, 1947, to Basil and Louise (Wise) McGuire, Gary was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Jefferson High School in the class of 1965. He began his career in food and grocery management in 1969, and worked for Bishops, Hy-Vee and the State of Iowa before retiring in 2003.
He was an active member of his church and served his God. Gary enjoyed watching college football, fishing, and being around his family, friends and his pets.
Left to cherish Gary's memory are his wife of 46 years, Janet McGuire; daughters, Brooke (Patrick) Stammeyer and Katey (Jeremy) Andersen; grandchildren, Grace Stammeyer, Caleb Stammeyer and McGuire "Mac" Andersen; and a brother, Larry McGuire of Cedar Rapids.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Charolette Shafer.
