Clarence Frank "Arky" Vaughn, 96, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Clarence was born Jan. 18, 1922, the son of Frank and Amelia Vaughn in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Roosevelt High School on Jan. 18, 1940. In October 1942, Clarence joined the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist mate second class and was discharged in November 1945. He met and married Evelyn R. Cronk on Jan. 30, 1945, at Navy Pier in Chicago.
Clarence is survived by one daughter, Vicki (Terry) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Aaron (Tara) Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Laura Sparks of San Antonio, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Caleb Sparks and Gwen Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn.
