Schlotfelt, Gwen
Gwen Schlotfelt, 97, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton, due to heart failure. To honor Gwen's wishes, there will be no public services. Private committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
She was born June 17, 1912, in Vinton to Hilbert and Leota (Weems) Davis. On April 17, 1930, she was united in marriage to Max W. Schlotfelt at Morrison, Ill. He preceded her in death.
Gwen was a member of the First Christian Church in Vinton and was currently a resident at the Lutheran Home Assisted Living Apartments.
She is survived by her daughters, Dondaleen McCaleb of Matlacha, Fla., and Beverly (John A.) Anderson of Vinton; her grandchildren, Craig (Linda) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Marsha McCaleb of Flagstaff, Ariz., Jody (Ray) Berces of San Rafael, Calif., and Shelly (Rick) Haefner of Vinton; her great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Zieser of Cedar Rapids, Jill (Dan) Louzek of Cedar Rapids, Rachelle (Justin) Fitzgibbon of Davenport, and Anna Berces of Davis, Calif.; and her great-great grandsons, Benjamin, Thomas and John Louzek, and Aidan and Liam Fitzgibbon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Stanley McCaleb; three sisters; and four brothers.
