Hamer, Viola B. 'Vi'
CEDAR RAPIDS - Viola B.”Vi” Hamer, 87, of 1504 E Ave. NW, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Westside Care Center of cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Michalec, and a son, Kenneth (Barb), both of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Hamer of Ely; four grandchildren, Amy Wignall, Rodney (Leana) Michalec, Abby (Frank) Bowman and Troy (Lisa) Michalec; five great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, William; son-in-law, Frank; and two sisters.
Vi was born Nov. 7, 1922, in St. Lawrence, S.D., the daughter of William and Neva Parker Sweet. She married Allen N. Hamer on Dec. 30, 1940, in Trenton, Mo. He died in 1995. Vi was a homemaker. She was a member of Tops No. 259, I.B.E.W Retirees and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, crafts and especially the time she spent with her beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in Vi's name.
