Stramel, Melda Mary
Melda Mary Stramel, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a heart attack. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Craig Bex. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday at Teahen Funeral Home from 3 until 7 p.m. and again Saturday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
Melda is survived by one son, Michel (Laurie) Stramel, and two daughters, Susan K. (Leo Johnson) Stramel and Cheryl (Kurt) Carlson, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Tammy (Dan), Shelly (Andy), Jeremy, Justin, Katie and Devin; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Cody, Ben, Kayden, Kailey and Trace; one sister, Kathryn Hansen of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet, Cinder.
Melda was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome.
Melda was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Roscoe “Buck” and Lula “Boots” Rhodes. She married Jerome Stramel on Aug. 23, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Melda worked as an executive secretary for the Iowa DOT for 21 years, retiring in 1989.
Melda enjoyed painting, drawing, taking photographs and she loved to play the slots.
