Wallace, Darrell
Darrell Wallace, 74, of North Liberty, formerly of Oxford, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford with the Rev. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in Cosgrove. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Darrell's name.
Darrell was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Burlington, Kan., the son of Walter and Lenora Talley Wallace. The family lived in Burlington until 1945 at which time they moved to the North English and Kinross area. Darrell graduated from North English High School. On Sept. 25, 1965, he married Eileen Volk at St. Peter's Church in Cosgrove.
Darrell was the Transportation and Maintenance Director for the Clear Creek- Amana School District for many years, retiring in 2001. From 1977 to 1999 he drove the school bus for both Clear Creek- Amana and Regina Schools.
His memberships included St. Mary's Church in Oxford, past president of the Oxford Optimists, the Clear Creek-Amana Booster Club and had served as a 4-H Leader. Darrell enjoyed woodworking and baking cookies and bread. Most important to Darrell was his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished the time spent attending his grandchildren's events.
Survivors include his loving wife, Eileen and their four sons, Jeff Wallace and Dawn Morrissey of Iowa City, Daniel (Kristine) Wallace of Denver, Colo., Robert Wallace of Atlantic Beach, Fla. and Steven (Jessica) Wallace of North Liberty; five grandchildren, Brady, Kennedy, Madigan, Kenna and Jacquelyn; his brother, Kenneth (Linda) Wallace of Montezuma; his sister, Donna Loux of Des Moines; his sisters-in-law, Marge Simpson and Virginia (Tom) Travis; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Delores Rogers; and in-laws, Bernard and Irene Volk.
