Legion proposes creating post for women

To the editor:
As the 2nd District Commander of the American Legion, I would like to offer women veterans of the metro area an option.
I know that a lot of you have not joined the American Legion because you feel either unwanted or not appreciated by the 'good olé boy” syndrome at many of the posts. What I would like to propose is starting a female-only post for the area vets. If there is enough interest, it would be a wonderful thing for you. We can also discuss any other problems you are having. I propose a meeting at Hiawatha Legion Post on June 27 at 1 p.m. The post address is 207 Robins Road, Hiawatha.
The American Legion offers many programs and services that you should be aware of and take advantage of. I am sure that most male vets do not want any of you left out of these. But maybe some of you want to create your own post and that is what I am trying to make happen for you. We need as many 'voices” as we can to make sure that the folks on Capitol Hill don't forget about us after we come home.
