Cleppe, Ruthlene
Ruthlene Cleppe, 89, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Ruthlene is survived by her son, Gary and wife Pat of Brooklyn; her daughter, Marcia Kilmer also of Brooklyn; and seven grandchildren, Chad Kilmer (Pam) of Kirksville, Mo., Michele Kilmer-Young (Trent) of Kirksville, Darcy Kilmer-Gashwiler (Alan) of Havelock, N.C., Jocelyn Williams of Cedar Falls, Brian Beery of Waverly, Carrie Prugh of Cedar Falls, and Paris Soboroff of Brooklyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Wallace E. Cleppe; and a brother, William Simmons.
Ruthlene Simmons was born August 11, 1921, in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Margaret Kuntz Simmons. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1939, and taught in a rural one-room school house in Poweshiek County. She married Wallace E. Cleppe on March 13, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa. Ruthlene was a wife, mother and homemaker. In her free time, Ruthlene enjoyed cross stitch and other needlework. She was a longtime member of the River Road Club.
