Evelyn Clara Niccolai, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Robert (Mary) Niccolai Jr. of Walla Walla, Wash., Thomas (Jeanette) Niccolai of Cedar Rapids, Patrick Niccolai of Cedar Rapids, Christine (Richard) Sigwarth of Cedar Rapids, Lillian (Lenord) Tobias of Sandy, Ore., Nell Niccolai of Cedar Rapids and Anne (Dave) Black of Broomfield, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two on the way.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Robert Niccolai; brothers, Willaim, George, Russell, Harry Jr. and Jack Gale; and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Dora Niccolai.
Evelyn was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Harry and Nellie (Turner) Gale. She graduated in 1943 from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Evelyn married Robert Niccolai at St. Patrick's Cathedral in El Paso, Texas, on Aug. 21, 1945. She was an X-ray dark room technician at Mercy Medical Center for 20 years. Evelyn volunteered at Mercy Medical Center until the age of 91. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, St. John XXIII Catholic Church and most recently, St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established and will be directed to the various Catholic churches listed above.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to Evelyn's granddaughter, Angela Minard, who provided long-term support and direct care.
