Nessler, Eleanor M.
Eleanor M. Nessler, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness. To honor Eleanor's request there will be no public services. Private committal services will be held at the Garrison Cemetery at a later date. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Vinton, to Homer and Gladys (Ohland) Crow. Following high school graduation, she attended college and taught in country schools. She later served as a substitute teacher at the Garrison school for many years. Eleanor also served as school secretary for the Garrison and the Vinton-Shellsburg schools.
On March 11, 1944, she was united in marriage to Clifford Albert Nessler at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage in Vinton. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2007.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Dennis (Sheila) Nessler of Golden, Colo., Linda (Mike) Streif of West Union and Susan (Tim) Fuchs and Debra (Joe) Kruse, both of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Fuehrer, Dorothy (George) Duhrkopf and Evelyn (Carl) Boice, all of Cedar Falls.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Nessler; and her brothers, Richard and Gary Crow.
