RICKEY ALLEN MILLER
Cedar Rapids
Rickey Allen Miller, 62, of Cedar Rapids, passed away after a long illness with his family present at his side on Jan. 26, 2016.
Rick was born June 7, 1953, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids to Virgil and Ruby Miller. He attended Washington High School with the graduating class of 1972. Rick was employed by ADM thereafter until 1989.
Rick married Joni Johnson on Jan. 26, 1973. Rick was known as a loving and caring soul. He often lent a helping hand to those in need. His passion for animals showed through his feedings throughout the years of the many geese, ducks and especially squirrels present outside his home. He enjoyed watching their antics. Hobbies growing up included hunting and fishing. Longtime hobbies consisted of garage sales to find the perfect treasure for his home to add to many collections (especially brass items).
Rick is survived by his three children, Michelle R. Miller (Mahmoud Mohamed), Rick A. Miller (Cassy Miller) and Amy E. Miller; grandchildren, Rashyad R. Hussain (Azlina Omar), Raffee R. Hussain, Randy Rosman, Maisarah Rosman, Sage Miller, Chelsea Miller, Johnathan Edaburn, Megan Cornwell and DaCoda Cornwell; four "adopted" grandchildren, David, Deryck, Dennton and Cameron; half siblings, Larry Martin (Deb Martin), Linda Kaplan, Sally Ann, James Miller, Michael Miller, Steven Miller and Terry Miller; and two cats, Tibber and Sassy.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruby Miller; half siblings, Nancy McNabb and Daniel Miller; and lifelong friend and former wife, Joni.
The family would like to give a special thanks for all the condolences, prayers and love that has been shown through this difficult time. We could not have done this without the help and guidance of hospice in allowing Rick to live out his wishes and to Murdoch Funeral Home for all their assistance and care. The family said their final goodbyes at the graveside as requested by their loved one.
Rick will be missed tremendously, however, he is at peace, and has left us with wonderful memories and stories with which to reminisce.
