Ferreter, Loren E.

Loren E. Ferreter, 93, of Independence, died Friday morning, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Care Center in Independence.

Loren was born Dec. 9, 1919, near Rowley, Iowa, the son of John R. and Matilda D. (Kimm) Ferreter. On April 19, 1941, he was united in marriage to Veta L. Butterfield at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monti, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Quasqueton area. In 1959, Loren became employed with the John Deere Co. in Waterloo, while he continued to farm. Loren retired in 1981 and the couple moved into Independence in 1990.

Loren is survived by three children, Patricia (Ronald) Sandhoff, Schaller, Iowa, Shirley (Louis) Wendling, Independence, and Michael (Judy) Ferreter, Independence; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Scott, Winthrop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veta in 1993; a grandson, Joey Wendling; and two brothers, Richard and Norman Ferreter.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Winthrop. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence.
