Thrap, Gerald A.
Gerald A. Thrap, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 15, 2011, at the Hiawatha Care Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Bishop Kenneth Schaerr of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Memories. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jean; children, Craig Thrap and wife Jo Anne of Muscatine, Christine Longhurst and husband David of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Cynthia Richardson and husband Tod of Marion; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Richard and Robert.
Gerald Alan Thrap was born June 29, 1935, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Lois (Sharp) Thrap. He was united in marriage to Jean M. Hawkins on Nov. 25, 1955, in Keokuk. He served honorably in the Iowa National Guard for 10 years. He was employed as mill superintendent at ADM, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission in London, England, and as workers in the Chicago and Nauvoo, Ill., temples. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. Above all, he was devoted to his church and his family.
He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gerald's name may be made to the Hiawatha Care Center.
