Alberta "Bert" E. Welty, 89, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Brad Brown. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and Monday after 9 a.m. at the church.
Alberta is survived by a son, Scott (Amy) Welty of Atkins; a daughter, Sherri (Tim) Patten of Burlington, Kan.; three grandchildren, Sarah (Ian Sorrow) Patten, Zach Patten and Jenna Welty; her sister-in-law, Janet Welty of Bellevue, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Ed (Margaret) Rinderknecht; and two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy (Henry) Lange and Velma (Thurman) Harris.
Alberta Elizabeth Rinderknecht was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Atkins to Henry Karl and Louise Elizabeth Krug Rinderknecht. She married Gerald "Jerry" Nathan Welty on July 19, 1952, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. Jerry died in 2013.
Bert's first job was working on the family farm near Atkins. During World War II she helped out her dad at Atkins Lumber Co. She also worked at Neisner Varity Store, Killians Department Store, Quaker Oats and Butterfield-Rayborn Electric. For many years, Bert and her sister, Velma, ran the concession stand at Veterans Memorial Stadium. She also ran the ice cream machine in the cafeteria at Taft Junior High.
She was fortunate enough to be able to spend 16 warm winters in Arizona with her husband, Jerry.
