Sadie I. Ward, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Pastor Leoma Leigh-Williams officiating the services. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Sadie Inez Ward was born Jan. 26, 1936, to Speed and Sadie (Johnson) Mathews in Memphis, Tenn. She was united in marriage to Ernest Ward Sr. on Oct. 17, 1951, in Memphis. Sadie worked for Rockwell Collins for 25 years. She enjoyed watching her shows on TV, taking walks and, most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren and nephew, Richie. Sadie traveled all over the world. She loved her family dearly and will be forever missed.
Survivors include her children, Deborah (Kenneth) Reed and Brenda (John) Dawson, both of Cedar Rapids, Denise (Steve) Loufek of Las Vegas, Dennis Ward of Cedar Rapids, Preston (Sandee) Ward of Perry and Chad (Erin) Adero of Elk Ridge, Md.; her sisters, Vivian (Lathan) Wilkins of Memphis and Maureen (Vernell) Kirk of Detroit.; her 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Ernest Ward Jr.; her parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
A special thank-you to the Hospice of Mercy and to the wonderful nurses at Mercy Medical Center.
