Ricky F. DeCoster, 59, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at his home. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, with family and friends sharing stories of Rick beginning at 4 p.m. Following the services, all are invited to the Silver Dollar to continue the celebration of Rick's life.
Rick was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Sept. 9, 1957, the son of Donald F. and Ruth Ann (Bullard) DeCoster. He graduated from Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids in 1975. Rick married Marie Kay VanderSanden on April 15, 1978 in Cedar Rapids. Rick was a jack-of-all-trades and a master craftsman, following in the footsteps of his father and uncles. He built his own business, DeCoster Construction. He had worked for Reliable Services, Zirkelbach's, Clinton Back and Neck, Brian Crosser, Kristiansen and Sons, Jody Bielema Construction and E.B. Construction. Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, fishing, boating, camping, skiing, dirt track racing, road trips, and especially his Wednesday night get-togethers with chicken legs.
Rick is survived by his three sons, Kyle (Kimberly Leeper) DeCoster, Kalvin (Nikki Dean) DeCoster and Kody (Danica Stone) DeCoster, all of Clinton; his two grandchildren, Ethan Davis and Klaire DeCoster; his special little buddy, Cooper; two sisters, Deborah (Jeff) Forsyth of Swisher and Darcy (Russ) Rayner of Walford; his girlfriend, Cathi Bousselot of Clinton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his best friend, Cindy Heiar, in 2011.
