Smith, Orville Lee
Orville Lee Smith, 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital after a sudden illness. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2 p.m. until whenever on Saturday, March 5, at Ted's cabin, 5454 22nd Avenue Rd., Lot 41, Vinton. Orville's cremated remains will be scattered in Washington state. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Orville was born Dec. 4, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles I. and Wanda C. (Jacobs) Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy. Since 2005, Orville has been working for USA Staffing as a contract laborer.
Orville enjoyed camping and spending time with family.
Orville is survived by his mother, Wanda C. O'Dell of Belle Plaine; three sisters, Allison and Gary Schneider of Texas, Debbie Kline of Michigan and Vicky Spoon of Belle Plaine; two brothers, Randy and Cathy Smith of Texas and Jim Smith of Washington; his three “boys,” Art Dunkel of Central City and Brian and Ted Dunkel of Cedar Rapids; and his adopted grandson, Landon Dunkel of Cedar Rapids.
Orville was preceded in death by his father, Charles I. Smith; brother, Robert Smith; nephew, Chad Dunkel; and niece, Kara Dunkel.
