Lee, Melvin 'Chip' Edward
Melvin “Chip” Edward Lee, 49, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at his home.
Born June 9, 1962, in Burlington, the son of Melvin D. Lee and Connie (Broadfield) Lee Settles, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Manford Junior Settles. Melvin was a Burlington High School graduate and attended technical college in Las Vegas and Cedar Rapids. He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Lee was a supervisor of command center operations at Pearson Education in Coralville. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed his motorcycle, fishing, computers and anything electronic, his pets of which he referred to as “his babies,” hanging out with his friends and being with family.
Survivors include his mother, Connie Settles of Burlington; four sisters, Kyla (Ariel) Burton of Hesperia, Calif., Kerry (Mike) McCandless and LaDonna (Paul) Hanson, both of West Burlington, and Teresa Hoeschen of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Jim (Marie) Settles of Keosauqua and Rick (Karen) Settles of Marengo; two half sisters, Karen Smith of Florida and Patti McCullough of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews; and his two cats, Callie and Gracie.
Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Lee will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, at the chapel, with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Fairview Cemetery, rural Denmark.
