Margie A. Mitchell, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home Sunday, May 11, 2014. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Margie is survived by her husband of 60 years, James; children, John Mitchell, Boca Raton, Fla., Nancy Mitchell, Susan Mitchell, LeeAnn (Carl Harn) Mitchell and Mark Mitchell, all of Cedar Rapids, and Mike Mitchell, Laguna Beach, Calif.; eight granddaughters; and two sisters, Lucille Napier, Dayton, Ohio, and Susie Harris Smith, Vandalia, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary (McClanahan) Bivins; and an infant grandson, Alexander Mitchell.
Margie was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Lexington, Ky. She married James R. Mitchell on March 14, 1954, in Vandalia, Ohio. Margie and family moved to Cedar Rapids from Vandalia, Ohio, in 1978. Margie was a homemaker and a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, listening to music and telling her children "tall tales" about her youth.
Contributions in Margie's memory may be given to Saint Paul's United Methodist Church.
