Krumbholz, Jeffrey L.
Jeffrey L. Krumbholz of Robins passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, March 18, 2011, after a short but courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. A funeral service will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Cedar Rapids, on Monday, March 21, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family may visit at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a wake service to be held at 7 p.m.
Jeff was the youngest of five brothers born to his parents, Josephine and Kenneth Krumbholz. He grew up in the neighborhood grocery store on the west side of Cedar Rapids and attended St. Patrick and St. Jude grade schools. Jeff graduated from LaSalle High School in 1973.
Being the youngest of five boys was never easy. Although all may have their particular strengths, none had his heart. There is no doubt, he was the kindest and most thoughtful of the five boys. He was devoted to his family in general but had a very strong attachment to his parents and Grandma Maude.
Jeff loved fishing, golfing, and camping. The order really didn't matter and he wasn't opposed to doing two or three of those activities in the same day. In his spare time he was an avid Hawkeye, Bears, and Yankees fan. He enjoyed going out with Sue for an occasional nice dinner and loved a nice glass of wine or Dewars.
Jeff spent most of his adult life employed by Coe College as a member of its physical plant staff. He could be seen any day doing whatever was needed, always quick with a joke or a kind word, and always accompanied by his trademark thermal cup of strong coffee.
Jeff is survived by Sue Hickman, his long time loving companion; brothers, Mike (Jo Ann) of Crescent, Iowa, Steve (Dianne) of Coralville, John (Mary) of Cedar Rapids and Neal (Patsy) of Cedar Rapids; and seven nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Jeff. He is also survived and loved by his aunts and uncles, Barbara Jones, Dale and Janet Krumbholz, and Wayne and Norm Krumbholz, as well as countless other family and friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Josephine Krumbholz; his grandparents, Tony and Mary Palumbo and Otto and Maude Krumbholz; his aunts, Mary Grace, Merce and Aileen; and his uncles, Joe, John, Anthony, Dan, Pete, Gordon and Al.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Parkinson Foundation in Jeff's name.
Jeff has left us far too early, but the family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit and Mercy Hospice for their efforts to make this journey easier for Jeff and his family.
