JAMES "JIM" ZAHORIK JR.
Cedar Rapids
James "Jim" Zahorik Jr., 49, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, after a yearlong battle with stomach cancer. Memorial Celebration of Jim's Life: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Maranatha Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion.
James Michael Zahorik Jr. was born Oct. 26, 1967, in Everett, Wash., to James Sr. and Patricia (Longshore) Zahorik.
Left to cherish Jim's memory include his loving wife, Jennifer, whom he married March 10, 2001; his three daughters, Samantha, Brittani (fiance, Dustin Hupp) and Kaitlyn Zahorik; and son, James "Roman" Zahorik. Jim had three young grandchildren, Caleb Voelker, Natalie Voelker and Hannah Hupp. Jim also left behind his mother, Tish; a loving father, Jim "Moose" Kuykendall, the man who raised him like his own; and stepmother, Char Zahorik, who also was very special to Jim. He is also survived by his brothers, John and Mike Zahorik; and sister, Amanda (Jeff) Henkle. Jim leaves his dear cousin and brother in Christ, Randy (Sheila) Stewart. Also surviving are his mothers- and fathers-in-law, Charlene (Steve) Baker and Alan (Georgeanne) Cassidy-Wescott.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Lee Kuykendall; and his father, James M. Zahorik Sr.
After his diagnosis in February 2016, Jim did what he knew best and fought it head on with all he had. While continuing to work as an operations manager at Old Dominion Freight Line, Jim also remodeled his home and bought a hot rod to enjoy with his sweetheart. He will be remembered for his heart of gold and big smile. Jim was a hard-working and loving family man. He loved to go camping at the lake, and spend time with his family and pets, especially his little dog Lucy.
Memorial contributions can be made to Maranatha Bible Church.
