JEFFREY G. HARING
Iowa City
Jeffrey G. Haring, 50, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, at Iowa City Elks Lodge, 637 Foster Rd., Iowa City, IA 52245, to celebrate Jeff's life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to an educational fund for Michael Haring, son of Jeff and Kim.
Jeff was born on Nov. 2, 1965, the son of Stan and Barbara (Hawk) Haring. Jeff's father was a renowned Iowa scene watercolor artist and BMW Motorcycle News Magazine editor. His mother was a longtime State Farm agent and community volunteer. With little extended family, Jeff always treasured that he married into a large family, that of his high school sweetheart, Kim Hickman, on July 28, 1990.
Jeff was a lifelong east-sider, graduating from Iowa City High School in 1984 and receiving his B.A. in political science from the University of Iowa in 1993. He was a lifelong fan of the University of Iowa, a secret ISU and UNI supporter, except when playing Iowa, and a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Jeff enjoyed woodworking, gardening, drawing and music. He loved nature and being in the outdoors.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 26 years and friendship nearly 10 years prior, Kimberly G. (Hickman) Haring, and their son, Michael J. Haring; his mother, Barbara L. Haring of Iowa City; two older brothers, David B. Haring of Wichita, Kan., and Steven W. Haring (Ida Jentzsch) of Frankfurt, Germany; his niece, Jennifer Haring; his mother-in-law, Mary E. Hickman, and sister-in-law, Michelle Hickman, both of Iowa City; his many friends; and his rescue dog, Miley Ann.
