JEFFREY SCOTT ASTOR
North Liberty
Jeffrey Scott Astor, 56, of North Liberty, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, after a long and coura-geous battle with leukemia. He passed peacefully at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, surrounded by loved ones.
When in college at Westmar, Jeff met the love of his life, his wife, Jane Astor. They were married May 24, 1980. Jeff and Jane had two children: Jacqueline Lavely and husband Nate of Iowa City and Jacob Astor of Boone. On April 6, 2015, Jeff became a grandpa to his first and only grandson, Edward Alan Lavely. Jeff fell in love, doting on his grandson and spoiling him with affection.
Jeff was an avid athletic fan – a loyal Hawkeye and Chicago Bears supporter. Jeff enjoyed walking his dog, Blue, and letting him swim in "the pond." Throughout his life, he also spent a lot of his leisurely time fishing.
Jeff recently retired from Rockwell Collins, where he worked as an auditor.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Jacqueline (Nate) Lavely and Jacob Astor; grandson, Edward Lavely; brother, Dennis Astor (friend Bev Davis); sisters, Donna Birkicht (friend Cary Rhoads), Carol (Steve) Murphy and Janis (Larry) McMann; and his father, James Astor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Astor.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout this difficult time.
There will be a visitation Monday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in North Liberty.
A memorial fund has been set up in Jeff's name.
