James L. Long was born July 18, 1940, in Anahuac, Texas, the son of Lloyd and Ruth (Maddox) Long. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he was serving when the Vietnam War began. While in the service he met and was united in marriage to Bonita Lee Schoon on March 17, 1962.
A mechanical mind from his early youth, he put his passion of mechanics to work in all the places he worked over the years, from Allis Chalmers, Iowa Manufacturing, Rockwell Goss and finally Goss Graphics, where he retired from.
He and Bonita enjoyed over 40 years of living in Anamosa before moving to Iowa City in 2014 to be closer to their children. Jim loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but most of all his family.
His family includes his wife, Bonita; sons, Trent and Wade; daughter, Traci; and two sisters, Gladys and Mary.
